As a parent, do you ever wonder what you need to do to help your child grow into a strong and healthy smile? If so, we are happy to help you! There are four things that can help your child grow into the smile they deserve, and those four things include:
No. 1: Bring your child in for their first checkup
It is strongly recommended that you bring your child in for their first dental appointment by their first birthday or 6 months after their first tooth has erupted. This appointment will be simple and easy, and it will give you the chance to ask the dentist any questions you have.
No. 2: Teach your child about good oral hygiene
If your child learns how to brush, floss, and rinse at an early age, it will be easier for them to stay committed to their oral hygiene routine in the future. So, make sure they are brushing their teeth twice a day, flossing their teeth once a day, and rinsing their mouth with child-approved mouthwash daily.
No. 3: Avoid Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
Baby Bottle Tooth Decay is a serious condition that can severely alter your child’s oral health. To help your child avoid Baby Bottle Tooth Decay, do your best to put your child to sleep with a bottle of water rather than a bottle of juice, formula, or milk. If your child goes to bed with these sugary liquids, there is a high chance that the sugar in the liquids will help the bacteria in your child’s mouth create cavities.
No. 4: Control the use of the sippy cup
Sippy cups can be helpful, but they can also be trouble if your child drinks juice or sugary drinks from them often. Doing so can create tooth decay behind the front teeth. So, to prevent this problem, encourage your child to drink out of a regular cup and put water in the sippy cup as often as possible.
